Laboratory of Tumor Biology
The Laboratory is headed by Dr. Webster Cavenee and comprises two Sections with complementary interests. The Section of Molecular Cytogenetics is led by Dr. Karen Arden and is focused on the mechanisms underlying the etiologic roles of fusion transcription factors in human solid tumors and the role of DNA methylation in the prostate cancer development. The Section of Human Carcinogenesis, led by Dr. Frank Furnari, is especially focused on the oncogenic role of signal transduction mediated by protein or lipid phosphatases as well as the differences between the signaling effected by oncogenic mutant receptors and their normal wild-type counterparts. Substantial progress has been made in each area as detailed below and in the publication list.
